Who are ya?

La Moustache Formidable by Mimas

Each week, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves to be brought to your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or bands management will ever have made these recommendations; it is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing some good music.

Who Are Ya is not a poor attempt at an interview; it is just a basic introduction to the recommended band/act/artist.

This week, CityLifer Ian Burke recommends Mimas.

Who are ya? – Mimas

Where are you from? – 75 % Danish and 25 % Icelandic = 100 % Mimas

How long have you been doing what you’re doing now? – Mimas is going on its 6 year I think. It’s been awesome and we have agreed that if ever we were to dissolve Mimas we will all play together in a Jazz band together instead.

Is being a musician your full time job? If not, what is? – Playing rockmusic is unfortunately not a full time thing so we all have separate things going on. Lasse is in Human Resources, Snævar is at uni studying Aesthetics and Culture, Gert is working in Social Education and Daniel is going to school to be like Gert. We all plan on writing that one Lady Gaga style hit that will make us millions.

How would you explain your sound to someone’s 90 year old grandmother? – If you take a little Mozart, some Duke Ellington and a bit of Benny Goodman you get a sound that doesn´t even come close to the Mimas sound. Mimas probably sounds like a sweet dream where you’re cuddling with a puppy at times and at other times like a car crash.

Are there any obvious influences in your music? – Musicwise we all listen to a lot of different stuff and I think that shines through in our sound. Some people compare us to Modest Mouse which I personally have never listened too. Other people mention American Football which is a band that we like.

Are there any not so obvious influences in your music? – We all love us some good metal and we are all big fans of bands such as Deftones and Pantera. I don´t really think that shines through in our songs though.

Best place for people to find out what you are up to? – Hit us up on Facebook. Other than that we have a tumblr and we are on Twitter. We don’t like Myspace. But we love cocoa.

Anything to declare? – We love life. And each other.
