Who Are Ya?

Each week, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves to be brought to your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or bands management will ever have made these recommendations; it is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing good music.

This feature is by no way meant to be an interview; it is just a basic introduction to the recommended band/act/artist.

This week, CityLifer Simon A Morrison recommends Kryder.

Who are ya?

I’m Kryder – part of the production duo of the same name – me, along with my partner in sonic crime, Dokta Kaotika. I’m the guy in the top hat and wrap-a-round visor – the good doctor is a dwarf in a Mexican wrestling mask. And no, we’re not joking –these are the outfits we wear to fit the crime of mediocrity in clubland.

Where are you from?

We’re from the darker recesses of your worst nightmares. Imagine your most terrifying dream. Well, we producing the soundtrack… dark, twisted beats from the imaginative underground

How long have you been doing what you’re doing now?

Between us there must be 20 years worth of experience of making music and throwing some of the best parties Manchester has ever seen. They’ve given us awards for it, so we must be doing something right. Our next ambition, however, is to do something “wrong”…

Is being a musician your full time job? If not, what is?

Absolutely – music is our lives, 24,7. If we’re not squirreled away in our studio bunker making genetically modified beats to infect dancefloors across the world, we’re out there at the coalface of clubland – playing our music, turning on dancefloors, partying like demented motherfuckers.

How would you explain your sound to someone’s 90 year old grandmother?

We wouldn’t explain it. We’d just take her out clubbing, romance her all the way through the night and then play it to her as we kicked back in her bed in the morning necking her tamazepams…

Are there any obvious influences in your music?

We’re really into the better quality electronic music – Swedish House Mafia, Nero, Feed Me, Kissy Sell Out, Chase & Status, along with some of the guys remixing our music who we love… The Squatters, Will Reckless, people like that

Are there any not so obvious influences in your music?

The circus. Serious! The showmanship – the magic – has gone from clubland and we want to bring that carnival right back into town. There’s some magical and mysterious about the circus – about the big top and the circus freaks. That’s what nightclubs should be like, for freaks like us

Best place for people to find out what you are up to?

Kryder.co.uk. Whatever you do don’t go to kryder.com – that’s some Yank family who are more frightening than we are! At Kryder.co.uk you’ll find info about us and our music, you’ll be able to sign up for news and also for sneaky DJ only bootlegs and remixes. The site fully launches in the spring and is proper twisted. Just don’t look directly into the screen. Don’t ask why… just… well don’t…

Anything to declare?

We’ve got a moral crime sheet that unravels like Andrex bog paper. It goes on and on. The Dokta has been proper wrong in his time. He a porn star and sometimes the studio is like a set from some bonk fest movie version of Timebandits. Me… well that would be telling. I’ve had some fun, as people who know me will agree, but now I’m under the hat… it’s all a mystery!
