Who Are Ya?

Each week, one of our contributors will recommend an artist/band they think deserves to be brought to your attention. No record labels, PR companies, bands or bands management will ever have made these recommendations. It is simply one music fan putting their taste on the line in the hope of sharing good music. The questions have been designed so that they can’t waffle on and on about themselves and to just give you the reader/listener the basics.

So without further ado, let’s crack on with this week’s introduction, in which CityLifer Rob Shaw recommends Killaflaw for your audible delectation.

Who are ya?

Andy from Killaflaw.

Where are you from?

Liverpool

How long have you been doing what you’re doing now?

Been together a few years now.

Is being a musician your full time job? If not, what is?

Musicians all the way and some other stuff on the side.

How would you explain your sound to someone’s 90 year old grandmother?

You might like the blues bit but the beats are prob not your cup of tea.

Are there any obvious influences in your music?

There’s a delta blues streak in the songwriting, Led Zep, and the more modern influences go from Chems, DFA 1979 to Nirvana.

Are there any not so obvious influences in your music?

Our tastes go far and wide so it’s hard to say. I love 20th century classic filmy stuff by the likes of Vaughan Williams and Copland. If you listen to our debut album ‘Sleaze and Grit’ (when it’s released), that might come across. Benn would cite Bjork and Bob Dylan as two key influences.

Apart from yourself of course, what band/artist would you recommend our readers check out?

Loving a band we’ve played and collab’d with a few times called Dirty Rich, Kouncilhouse and Punks Jump Up are tickling my fancy at the minute as well.
