Now Wave at The Apollo, Manchester. 04/06/2011

Caribou/Battles plus more

By Peter Rea

Now Wave have built quite a reputation in Manchester for placing bands that everyone in the know are talking about, in the most appropriate and artist complimentary venues. Here, they join forces with The Warehouse Project, notorious for staging all-nighters in hidden parts of the city, involving the biggest names from underground genres.

This event promises to be an intriguing compromise between the two; Caribou return to Manchester after they stole the show at last November’s WHP as guests of collaborator Four Tet, with tunes from one of 2010’s defining albums ‘Swim’. Battles have a similar live set up to Caribou, and their tribal rhythms could potentially provide the perfect warm up for some uplifting sun-drenched disco. Their new album is released a few days later, so expect new material.

Mix in some minimal dubstep from Ramadanman, electro glam from Actress, soulful cuts from Star Slinger, funky “Korean Pop” from Kelpe, experimental hip hop from Illum Sphere and sets from the Now Wave’s DJ’s, and it’s safe to say the old venue will be bouncing til 3am.

Tickets go onsale 9am Thursday 10/03/2011
