Magic Kids

Far be it for CityLifers to over-hype a band you’ve never heard of in the manner of the very publications we complain about in our manifesto. But (haha) we think we’re onto something pretty exciting with Magic Kids. Based in Memphis Tennessee (the upcoming album bear the name of this city), they make music that draws heavily from the California pop scene of the late 60s. The psychedelic, acid-soaked experimentation of Brian Wilson dominates. Magic Kids have also picked up elements of ELO’s masterful use of melody, and their love of orchestration – rest assured, strings are present but not misused.

All in all, though it’s early days, Magic Kids are shaping up to be something pretty special. Go to their myspace now and have a listen. We don’t think they’ll disappoint. Here’s the link:
