NEWS: Thee Oh Sees

1 05 2011

New Album + UK Dates

San Francisco’s Thee Oh Sees are back with a collection of original tracks plus a smattering of covers with their new full-length Castlemania.

While the group’s previous releases on In The Red Recored, Help and Warm Slime, showcase their amped-up, reverb-drenched sound, John Dwyer and co. take a more low-key approach with Castlemania, Dwyer himself describing it as more “summery and poppy”. On many of the tracks, electric guitars are switched for acoustic, and the normally echo-laden vocals are a bit clearer. The Result? Pop melodies, sombre tunes, cover versions of The Creation and the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, and at least one garage stomper on Thee Oh Sees’ take on “sunshine pop”.

The vinyl for Castlemania is a three-sided double LP housed in a gatefold sleeve with a fourth side featuring an etching by William Keihn, who also did the cover art.

Watch for Thee Oh Sees to return later this year with another full-length.

May Dates:

27 –The Dome London

29 –The Cluny Newcastle
